Identity of child flood victim confirmed

ALEXANDRA - DNA tests help Everite Chauke's family get closure after her body was found.

The body of a child found along the Jukskei River last week has been confirmed as that of three year old Everite Chauke who was swept away from her father’s grip by flush floods on 9 November.

Gauteng Police spokesperson Lieutenant Kay Makhubela said DNA results from Police Forensic Lab confirmed the identity and the police had taken the family to the government mortuary.

Councillor Adolph Marema also confirmed the finding saying the MMC for Community Development Nonhlanhla Sifumba committed the City to help with the funeral which will be held at the Marlboro Cemetery on a date still to be announced, this despite the family being from Zimbabwe.
