Female Morningside thief awaits sentencing

ALEXANDRA – Habitual female criminal awaits sentencing for Morningside home robbery.

A female Alex resident convicted in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for housebreaking and theft at a Morningside home will be sentenced on 21 November.

Mpho Petje (21), who has a history of housebreaking and drug possession convictions, admitted to the charges after security guards and the homeowner found her on the premises on 19 October with a carry bag containing the homeowner’s TV games, an X-Box, cellphones, wireless hard drive and USB cables.

The homeowner had left the home at about 9am only to be called back minutes later by the security guards when the alarm at the home was activated. While waiting at the front gate for the security guards to arrive, the homeowner saw the accused inside. She had gained entry by breaking one of the house windows and claimed to have scaled the perimeter wall.

In mitigation, she said she was unemployed, had a four-month-old baby and often moved around in the area looking for food and clothing.
