Man bust with arsenal to return to court

ALEXANDRA – A suspect who was out on bail for other armed crimes will find himself back in court on 28 November.

 

A suspect, who was arrested in Blue Hills, Midrand on 19 November after allegedly fleeing from a road block in a reported stolen motor vehicle appeared at the Alex Magistrates Court 21 November where he was found to be out on bail for other crimes committed in Mpumalanga earlier this year.

His case was postponed to 28 November.  The court heard that the 35 year old suspect from Olivenbosch was allegedly found in possession of restricted firearms – R5 rifles, an R4, LM5 and AK rifles, 200 rounds of ammunition and six bulletproof vests, explosive devices including 12 electronic detonators, 24 blasting fuses, a safety fuse and a 12-volt battery often associated with ATM bombings and, the reported stolen motor vehicle.

The suspect was found to have committed these offences while on bail for crimes of attempted murder, hijacking, possession of illegal firearms and motor vehicle theft committed in Mpumalanga with others also presumed to have been granted bail. It also emerged in court that the suspect served previous others sentences for housebreaking, illegal gun possession, business robbery and possession of stolen property.

Spokesperson for Alex Police Station, Captain Allie Kodisang said the suspect sped from the road block after failing to produce a driver’s licence and was arrested after the vehicle hit a kerb and stopped.
