Police investigate school girl rapes

ALEXANDRA – Schoolgirls allegedly raped at and after school.

Alex police are investigating the rape of two school girls in the first week of November.

The first victim was a 12-year-old girl who was allegedly raped in Extension 8 on the afternoon on 2 November as she walking home from school after disembarking from a taxi.

Alexandra Police Station spokesperson, Captain Allie Kodisang said the child reported the incident to her mother the following day after she started bleeding. It was said a male youth allegedly grabbed and dragged her into a house and was joined by another youth. Both suspects allegedly took turns raping her without condoms after forcibly undressing her and covering her mouth with their hands. Afterwards, one of the suspects allegedly produced a knife and threatened to cut her throat if she reported it.

In the second incident, Kodisang said a school girl of an unspecified age was allegedly raped in a school toilet at about 7.30am on 3 November by three male school mates.

The mother was informed by letter from the school and confirmed with the school when she went to inquire about the incident. It wasn’t specified what steps were taken.

This comes after several school safety concerns were raised earlier this year by schoolchildren who marched to the police station and by the NPO Victim Empowerment Unit based at the police station about safety – especially of girls.
