36 arrested in one week

ALEXANDRA – November starts with 36 arrests and 61 reported crimes.

According to the spokesperson for Alex Police Station, spokesperson Captain Allie Kodisang, Alex police officers attended to 61 criminal cases and arrested 36 suspects in the first week of November.

Some of the suspects are in detention pending the conclusion of further investigations, while others have appeared in court.

The 61 offences include:

  • 3 for murder
  • 2 for rape
  • 4 for motor vehicle theft
  • 3 for theft from motor vehicles
  • 6 residential burglaries
  • 1 business burglary
  • 1 business robbery
  • 1 house robbery
  • 1 robbery with a firearm
  • 1 robbery with a weapon other than a firearm
  • 1 common robbery
  • 2 attempted murders
  • 5 for malicious damage to property
  • 9 for general theft
  • 1 for fraud
  • 2 for assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm
  • 18 for common assault.

The 36 arrests include:

  • 1 suspect for murder
  • 5 suspects for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
  • 6 suspects for common assault
  • 1 suspect for rape
  • 4 suspects for malicious damage to property
  • 1 suspect for a residential burglary
  • 1 suspect for common theft
  • 1 suspect for a commercial crime
  • 1 suspect for shoplifting
  • 1 suspect for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition
  • 11 suspects for illegal possession of drugs
  • 1 suspect for possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle
  • 2 suspects for drunken driving.
