From waiter to winner

JOBURG – From waiter to businessman, this young and ambitious entrepreneur is headed for financial success.

A young businessman personifies singer Drake’s lyrics, ‘… started from the bottom, now we’re here’.

Born in the hills of KwaZulu-Natal, the financially savvy young man, Thembokuhle Shongwe, became a financial analyst after graduating from the University of South Africa (Unisa).

Shongwe, who was once a waiter, found success in the trading of currencies and aims to educate and pass on his knowledge of trading to people in the downtrodden and vulnerable communities of South African – particularly in townships and rural areas.

Shongwe and his partner are currently looking to bridge the gap between the population growth and unemployment rate by giving affordable classes and free seminars to people in lower and middle-income bracket– teaching them how to trade within the country’s economy.

In the past eight months, the academy has managed to help and train over 100 individuals to trade and also disseminated advice on how to eliminate poverty through their seminars and classes.

During his late teenage years, Shongwe struggled to make ends meet, working odds hours as a waiter to provide for his family and pay for his studies, but for the determined young man, that was not enough.

This young, ambitious businessman – against all odds – went on to build an empire, with a branch of his company now open in Sandton.

“I was tired of the long hours, difficult clients, and low wages. I wanted to change myself, my family and my community,” he explained.

He is now the founder and the president of Titan Forex Academy, which he co-owns with his partner, Lucia Manthata.

At 23-years-old, Shongwe became one of the best-performing Forex traders in the South African trading currency index.

This year, he and his partner are looking at double the number, with the aim of training more than 200 individuals and helping them achieve financial freedom.
