Good work by Joburg Central police

JOBURG – Johannesburg Central Police Station officers are on a roll.

Johannesburg Central Police Station officer arrested three suspects between the ages of 27 and 38 for possession of a hijacked motor vehicle on the corner of Mint and Bree streets on 24 October at 2pm.

According to Captain Xoli Mbele, spokesperson for Johannesburg Central Police Station, the arrests came as a result of visible policing.

“Police were busy with their routine crime prevention duties when they saw two suspicious men inside a white VW Polo Vivo. They stopped and [checked] the vehicle’s VIN number and it came out positive that it was hijacked [in the] Eastern Cape in August.”

Mbele added that the third suspect, who is the alleged owner, was arrested later on that day.

“The investigation is continuing, [the] suspects will appear soon in Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.”

In a separate incident on the same day, on the corner of Marshall and Goud streets, Johannesburg Central police officers arrested a 29-year-old man for attempted murder.

According to Mbele, it is alleged that the suspect shot a 32-year-old man once in the upper body. “It is alleged that [the] victim was shot after the suspect’s brother came to demand his money from the victim.” He said the suspect was assaulted by community members and police came to his rescue.

“[An] ambulance took the victim and the suspect to a hospital for treatment. The suspect is under police guard in hospital. The firearm used in the commission of the crime was not recovered.”

Mbele said the investigation is continuing and the suspect will appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
