Broken jaw, missing teeth over R2 coin

ALEXANDRA - Man's jaw broken by brick over his R2 coin.

A man is recuperating in hospital with a broken jaw and missing teeth after a suspect, who is known to the victim, allegedly threw a brick at him in a dispute over a R2 coin.

Alex Police Station spokesperson, Captain Allie Kodisang said the police were investigating a case of grievous bodily harm against the 23-year-old suspect who has not been arrested.

The victim’s mother asked him to go to a shop and while waiting to be served, the suspect allegedly asked the victim for a R2 coin in his possession. The suspect took the R2 coin without the victim’s consent.

The victim went back home but the mother ordered him to go retrieve the R2 from the suspect. Shortly after going to the shops for the second time and en route home, the mother saw her son running from the suspect who then allegedly threw a brick at him. The suspect then fled when he saw the victim’s mother approaching him.

The brick hit the victim in the face and broke his jaw, as well as knocking out five of his teeth.

The victim was taken to Alex Clinic but was later transferred to the Joburg General Hospital where he was operated on.

The case continues.
