Fired guard part of robbery gang at former employer

ALEXANDRA – Dismissed security guard charged with gang robbery at former employer.

The voice of a fired security guard at an electronics company and the scene of a crime led to his and four accomplices’ arrests.

The five suspects were remanded in custody by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for the robbery at the guard’s former workplace in Kramerville at 7.30 pm on 10 June last year.

They will reappear in court on 29 September for a further hearing.

The gang allegedly went to the company and one of them, who was armed, waited at the guard room. When the guard returned from patrol, the suspect pointed a gun at him and was overheard by the captive guard telling someone on the phone that they had gotten the guard. Another suspect joined the gunman in tying up the guard with shoe laces and locking him in the guard’s room. The captive guard also saw two other suspects within the premises.

A vehicle then entered the premises and the guard heard a voice he allegedly recognised as that of a former guard and co-worker coming from the vehicle saying, ‘hurry up’.

After 30 minutes, the vehicle left and the guard managed to untie himself. He checked the area and found the building burgled and, laptops, tablets, cellphones, microwaves, other electronic items and R20 000 in cash, all totalling R150 000, missing.

Investigations led the police to the former guard’s home where he was arrested. He led the police to his four alleged accomplices who were also arrested.

The case continues.
