UPDATE: Attempted murder case between neighbours up for mediation

ALEXANDRA – A case involving the alleged attempted murder of a neighbour by a 60-year-old suspect is up for mediation.

A complainant involved in an assault and attempted murder case, as reported in the article, 60-year-old on attempted murder charge, Week ending 2 September, recently agreed to a mediation process in a bid to bring about reconciliation in the interest of good neighbourliness.

The 28-year-old complainant from 11th Avenue, who resides on the same premises but different residence as the 60-year-old male suspect, alleged during a hearing in Alexandra Magistrates’ Court that the suspect attempted to stab him with a knife.

After he managed to escape into his room, the suspect allegedly fetched other men who came armed with cricket and baseball bats.

According to the victim, the group of men allegedly used the bats to assault him after they hauled him out of his room. He had to seek treatment for his injuries at Alex Clinic.

The suspect, who was granted bail, denied both charges, saying he did not participate in the assault which was committed by other residents and that no knife was, in fact, used.

The court will facilitate the mediation.
