Woman on attempted murder charge

ALEXANDRA – Woman on attempted murder charge of 'perverted' victim.

A 38-year-old woman from Midrand, charged with attempted murder, was granted R3 000 bail by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court, pending a further hearing on 20 September.

She will reappear in court with her 18-year-old son, who paid a similar fine for a lesser charge of malicious damage to property.

On 10 August, the two, who rented a place in a block of cottages and kept 18 dogs, drove out of the place and when they returned at about 7.30 pm, they found the gate locked. Other tenants, the 70-year-old complainant, and the brother of the owner of the cottages, were near the gate but didn’t open for them.

The son banged on the fence and electric gate, causing some damage, while the mother sat in their vehicle. The old man told them that police were on their way to sort out a problem, seemingly in relation to the two. This infuriated the woman, who allegedly drove her vehicle into the gate. The gate fell on the old man, seriously injuring him in the face. He was rushed to hospital for treatment.

In mitigation, the accused said they hadn’t been warned of any misdeeds on her and her son’s part, or that the gate would be locked. She said that she wanted to get in to feed her dogs, adding that the old man was a pervert with whom she bad blood for peeping on her.

The old man confirmed owning binoculars but denied being a pervert and peeping Tom.

The accused now lives somewhere in Centurion.
