Hijacker gets 15-year sentence

ALEXANDRA - Man in Quantum gets 15 year sentence for hijacking at Midrand creche.

A 22-year-old Alex man was sentenced in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court to 15 years imprisonment for hijacking a motor vehicle from a female.

Thabo Ngcobo, a first-time offender, was found guilty of the hijacking, which occurred at about 4.15pm on 22 June this year at a crèche in Noordwyk, Midrand. He was arrested at 2.30am the following morning after police, who were patrolling in Alex, stopped him for driving a stolen vehicle.

The accused, with others in a Toyota Quantum, had parked at the crèche at the same time as the victim, who was in a Chrysler PT Cruiser. After collecting a child, the victim drove away. The Quantum followed, then passed her and blocked her from the front. The accused got out of the Quantum and forced the mother and child out of their vehicle.

He then threw their belongings out of the car, before driving off in it.

The vehicle was returned to her after his arrest.
