Man severely beaten for hugging another man’s girlfriend

ÁLEXANDRA – Man detained for gang beating of girlfriend's hugger.

 

An Alex man (21) was remanded in custody by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court pending further investigation for the alleged attempted murder of another man he saw hugging his girlfriend.

The crime, committed with a group of friends who are at large, occurred at about midnight on 19 July this year near the girlfriend’s home on 9th Avenue.

The accused went to the girlfriend’s home alone and, on arrival, saw the man hugging her. He warned him not to hug her again and this angered the man who allegedly hit the accused, resulting in a fight. The accused ran away and returned with a group of friends who all allegedly beat and hit the victim using bricks.

One of them is said to have threatened the victim with a gun and warned him not to mess with them again. Another was said to have hit the victim on the head with a pick handle, cracking his skull resulting in severe head injuries. He was taken to Joburg General Hospital for treatment.
