After several applications, four Alex youths were denied bail by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for the alleged gang rape of a 14-year-old relative of one of the accused.
The crime occurred in December last year and they were arrested in January this year. A fifth accomplice has been evading arrest.
The court heard that the victim was, on 16 December last year, enticed by the relative who she trusted, to join him and his friends at one of their homes at Bothlabela Flats in Ext 8 where they allegedly spent most of the time smoking drugs. She apparently didn’t smoke the drugs.
One of the accused allegedly threatened her with a gun and locked her in a room where the group, including the relative, allegedly took turns raping her until 23 December. They only released her after a relative was reportedly on their way to the flat. After returning home, she went to report the incident at Alexandra Police Station, leading to the suspects being arrested.
They will reappear in court after the conclusion of the investigation.
