Alex residents commended for peaceful polls

ALEXANDRA - The people of Alexandra have been commended for a peaceful and incident-free municipal elections.

The residents of Alexandra have been lauded for what an IEC [Independent Electoral Commission] officer at the Alex nerve centre in Sankopano described as one of the most peaceful elections ever.

Fana Usiba said everything went smoothly in Alexandra except when special votes ballot boxes were brought in to accompany the others to the results centre in Pretoria.

“We had a few hair-raising moments which were quickly dealt with but overall, I take my hat off for the people of Alexandra for giving us a peaceful and incident free election,” Usiba said.

His incident-free comments were echoed by Alex police spokesperson, Lt Alie Kodisang, who congratulated the people of Alexandra for a peaceful election.

“So far so good. People of Alexandra behaved very well and we have no complaints of any incidents of whatsoever nature on the law enforcement side. I say thank you to people of Alexandra for that,” Kodisang added.

Democratic Alliance PR Councillor and candidate for Ward 105, Shadrack Mkhonto said elections in the ward went very smoothly with exception of some ANC people that were driving around hooting and playing music on top of the volume into polling stations, especially at Skeen Primary School and others.

“They were nipped in the bud by the police and chased away. Overall it was a peaceful ward and elections progressed without incident,” said Mkhonto, who indicated he could smell victory.
