Transporter charged with theft

ALEXANDRA – Transporter on bail for stealing items he was contracted to deliver.

A man from Kempton Park who has been behind bars on charges of theft, was granted R4 000 bail by Alexandra Magistrates’ Court, pending further investigation.

The 31-year-old suspect was contracted by a Randjespark-based building contractor to transport equipment to a new office location.

It was said three days after the equipment was moved, the contractor discovered several missing items which the accused was supposed to have transported to the new site.

When confronted, the accused admitted to having taken the missing items which he said was scrap metal.

The suspect said he took the items as it covered the outstanding payment of R4 900 still owed by the contractor for services he had rendered previously. He claimed to have sold the assumed scrap items for R5 300.

The case continues.
