A man from KwaZulu-Natal appeared in Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for an alleged contract murder committed on the night of 9 July on 1st Avenue.
The male victim was gunned down on the street.
The Alexandra Police Station commander Colonel Nhluvuko Zondi said quick reaction by the police who were on patrol nearby led to the arrest of the 23-year-old accused who was found in possession of an unlicensed revolver and ammunition.
Zondi said the accused confessed to the police to have been paid R35 000 by someone in KwaZulu-Natal to kill the victim for the non-payment of R17 000 on an undisclosed debt.
The case was postponed due to further investigation and the suspect will appear in court again soon.
