Police hunt for two rapists

ALEXANDRA – Police are looking for two suspects who raped a woman in front of her friends in a park in Westbank.

Alex police are on the hunt for two men who allegedly raped a woman in front of two of her female friends, after grabbing her from a street in the early hours of the morning and dragging her to a nearby park where she was repeatedly raped.

The three women had just left the victim’s residence in 19th Avenue on their way to the home of other friends who lived in 18th Avenue when they were approached by two men at about 1am.

The men demanded their cellphones, to which the women replied that they had left them behind. One of the men grabbed the victim by her jacket and dragged her to the nearby park in Westbank.

When the victim tried to scream, one of the men ordered her to shut up and said he would harm her if she made any noise. As he was running with her to the park, he kept on blowing a whistle, which the victim assumed was to alert his partner in crime of his whereabouts.

According to Joburg North Cluster Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, while dragging the victim, the suspect allegedly ordered her to take off her white pants as ‘they were too visible in the dark’.

On arrival at the park, the victim and her assailant were soon joined by the suspect’s partner along with the victim’s two friends. The victim was then allegedly raped repeatedly by the two suspects.

The victim’s friends were forced to watch.

Maphakela said they were still investigating the case. No arrests have been made as yet.
