Bryanston home robber sentenced to 16 years

ALEXANDRA - Hillbrow robber receives 16-year sentence for Bryanston house robbery.

A Hillbrow man, Mandla Hadebe (35), was sentenced by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court to 16 years imprisonment for house robbery, eight of which were wholly suspended for five years.

Hadebe was found guilty of a robbery committed at a Bryanston residence at about 7.30pm on 13 September last year with two other suspects. The other two suspects are still at large.

The trio was said to have scaled a wall into the premises, gained entry into the house and overpowered the couple with a knife and firearm, while they were sitting in the lounge.

They ordered the victims to hand over their wristwatches, wallet and purse which both contained an undisclosed amount of money.

Hadebe then forced the victims to walk to the main bedroom and ordered them to open a safe from which the accused stole jewellery. The accused also asked for whisky, which the couple gave him, and the trio drank while robbing the victims.

The robbers also took eight bottles of perfume, two computers and an Apple iPhone before fleeing the scene.

The accused was arrested on 17 December last year at his Hillbrow residence after his fingerprints were found on the glass he used to drink the whisky.
