Wear your slippers and make dreams come true

JOHANNESBURG – Reach For A Dream Foundation is offering one lucky school the chance to win a private concert.

The Reach For A Dream foundation will be holding its biggest annual fundraising day on Friday, August 5.

South Africans are encouraged to support Slipper Day by donning a pair of slippers to school or to the workplace and purchasing a R10 sticker. The money raised will go towards granting hope and making the dreams of children with life-threatening illnesses including cancer, cystic fibrosis and heart conditions come true.

“In Johannesburg, the main hospitals that we work with are Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital, Chris Hani Baragwanath, Donald Gordon, Rahima Moosa and a variety of clinics such as Harriet Shezi,” said Julia Sotirianakos chief executive officer for the Reach For A Dream Foundation.

“We accept referrals for dreams from any hospital or paediatrician.”

This year the foundation is challenging schools across Gauteng to take part in selling Slipper Day stickers and the schools that have impressive figures will stand a chance to win amazing prizes.

Three guests from a list of South African artists will hold a private concert at the winning school and the winning principal and class teacher will each win a weekend away to a tourist destination within the country including flights and accommodation.

Sotirianakos said since 2011, Slipper Day has seen tremendous growth with last year’s event raising over R3,5 million. “This year, Reach For A Dream is hoping to sell 650 000 stickers, which will almost double its fundraising total for 2015,” she said.

Stickers can be ordered from any Reach For A Dream branch and will be delivered straight to the school for quick and easy distribution. Schools that wish to take part should e-mail info@slipperday.co.za with their delivery address for a full information pack.
