Bending and twisting in the heart of Braam

BRAAMFONTEIN – Find your spiritual centre in the centre of the city.

A local world-renowned yogi is bringing a new style of yoga to South Africa and you can catch it first in Braam.

Forrest yoga was founded by American, Ana Forrest, and has become one of the leading international yoga styles.

Melanie Castleman is our own internationally accredited yogi and has travelled the world, exploring all aspects of yoga and even assisted Forrest in America; and now Castleman is bringing her teachings back to the big city.

She will be hosting a 90-minute Forrest yoga workshop at Braamfontein Gate on 26 June and the inaugural session, which will hopefully become a regular thing, will include a personalised audio greeting and message from Forrest herself.

The landmark 30-storey building situated at 209 Smit Street is currently under construction and is set to be transformed into what they’re hoping will be known as the best-known apartment development in Johannesburg.

“The industrial setting for the workshop is truly unique,” Castleman commented on the choice of venue for the first Forrest yoga session in the city.

“Sometimes bringing yogis together in a unique setting inspires their yoga practice. It also creates great awareness of wonderful undiscovered parts of our city,” she continued.

Castleman explained that Forrest yoga is renowned as an intensely physical, internally focused practice that emphasises how to carry a transformative experience off the mat and into daily life.

“Forrest yoga is an intense style of yoga focused on healing injuries – physical and spiritual,” she added.

Braamfontein Gate developers are also looking forward to the exciting event that will place yogis in the city’s social centre – surrounded by top South African corporates and a one-minute walk from the Gautrain.

In addition, the proceeds from the class will go to a charity in need. “The event will also be raising money for the Children of Fire charity and there will be free yoga and entertainment for children, as well as safe parking.”
