Rearrested fugitive gets five years for fraud

ALEXANDRA - Fugitive fraudster rearrested while entering country sentenced to five years

A man who skipped bail in 2009 for attempted fraud at a bank was captured in April and sentenced to five years in prison by Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.

Zibusiso Khanye (27) was rearrested on 28 April at the Beit Bridge border as he entered the country from Zimbabwe by bus.

This was after police officers, who were checking passenger’s passports, identified him as wanted for skipping bail for the fraud he committed at a Nedbank branch in Sandton. It was said that he attempted to cash a fraudulent cheque for R62 000. He was arrested as he tried to flee the bank when management was assessing the cheque.

He disappeared after being granted bail.
