Two Alex men, who were cleaners at Sandton Mall, were each sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment by Alexandra Magistrates’ Court after pleading guilty to breaking into and stealing from a shop.
Mboniseni Mkhize (24) and Freedom Ncengwe (20) pleaded guilty to stealing sportswear including brand name items worth R35 000 after breaking a padlock and entering the shop on 16 May.
The theft was discovered the following morning by the store personnel when checking the stock room which was littered with hangers on the floor.
They were identified on surveillance camera footage and arrested while on duty. They admitted to the charge and took police to their residences where all the stolen items were found and recovered.
