Fugitive rearrested, to appear in court

ALEXANDRA - Fugitive captured and to reappear in court for 2012 Midrand school robbery.

A man who was rearrested after skipping bail appeared in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for an armed robbery and assault he committed in 2012.

Bhekumuzi Makobo skipped bail in 2013 for the robbery he committed with four accomplices at a Midrand school. His co-accused were sentenced, including a gardener at the school who let the gang in.

Their victims were school staff and visitors who they beat and robbed of cellphones and other valuables. Police, acting on a tip-off, arrived at the school, arrested the culprits and recovered the stolen items. Two of Makobo’s accomplices were sentenced to three years, the accomplice who carried a gun to 18 years, and the gardener to 16 years.

Makhobo was rearrested in Limpopo in April this year after police were tipped off about a pending business robbery. They tracked and stopped a vehicle in which Makhobo and accomplices were travelling in.

It’s unknown what happened to his accomplices.
