Alex High pupils get shoe donation

ALEXANDRA - Insurance giant Marsh Africa donates school shoes to Alex High pupils

Some Alexandra High School pupils received a donation of shoes from insurance giant, Marsh Africa.

The donation of 200 pairs of shoes was from the company’s Boost a School programme, a part of its corporate social responsibility. The donation was also in recognition of May as Global Volunteer month.

School principal Zoleka Lebelo said they were delighted to see companies such as Marsh taking the education of the African child seriously, especially in Alex where most children came from disadvantaged families. “The staff, children and parents will do their best to ensure that we take full advantage of this opportunity and that we produce excellent results,” Lebelo said.

The company said the programme was informed by a need to invest in the growth and development of children, improve school performance and enhance the quality of education in disadvantaged communities countrywide. It includes pupils’ leadership development, teacher support and empowerment, parental empowerment, school leadership support, information and communication technology exposure, and career guidance and mentorship.

The programme’s beneficiaries were identified by the school’s staff members.
