Two women abused by their partners

ALEXANDRA - A man has been arrested by Alexandra police after he allegedly beat up his girlfriend for refusing to cook for him.

According to Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, the couple had just returned home from the Johannesburg CBD at about 6pm when the boyfriend demanded his girlfriend make him some dinner.

The victim is said to have told her boyfriend that she would cook for him once her headache had disappeared.

Maphakela said the boyfriend demanded she prepare food for him or leave his house. An argument ensued while the woman was busy packing her belongings to move out. The suspect is said to have kicked and pushed the victim out of the house. The woman reported the assault to the police and the man was arrested.

Maphakela said the suspect is expected to appear in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

In a second case, a jealous boyfriend was also arrested for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after he beat up his girlfriend after accusing her of having an affair. The couple was at the boyfriend’s home on 14th Avenue when he levelled accusations of her having an affair, which the victim denied.

The boyfriend is said to have punched and kicked her. According to Maphakela, the victim sustained injuries and bruises to her face and body.

The boyfriend was detained at the Alexandra Police Station and will appear in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.
