Man arrested for stabbing Pikitup workers

ALEXANDRA - A striking Pikitup employee has been arrested for stabbing and stoning his fellow non-striking employees.

Alex community members recently apprehended a man who allegedly stabbed four good Samaritans from Pikitup who were trying to alleviate the township’s stinking and increasing rubbish, which has become a health hazard in the township.

According to Alex Police Station spokesperson, Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, police received a complaint about the four Samaritans from Pikitup who were being stabbed and stoned on the corner of Joe Nhlanhla Street and 13th Avenue.

On arrival, police found four badly-injured men from Pikitup with their damaged truck. As police officers were interviewing the workers, a group of residents arrived on the scene with a man they had apprehended. They claimed he was involved in the stabbing and stoning of the workers.

After he was positively identified by the four workers, the man, who is also an employee of Pikitup, was arrested and detained at the Alexandra Police Station.

The man will appear in court facing a charge of attempted murder and malicious damage to property. The damage caused to the truck is said to be in the range of R15 000.

Maphakela said the four injured employees were rushed to a hospital for treatment.

The case continues.
