Police still on hunt for ‘thieving’ girlfriend

ALEXANDRA - Milicent Masedi Mashaba is still on the run after she allegedly stole from her boyfriend and Alex police need the community's assistance in tracking her down.

Alex police are still looking for 24-year-old Milicent Masedi Mashaba of Tembisa who is said to have duped her Alex lover into standing in a queue for her at a local clinic while she allegedly stole his bank cards, clothes and later withdrew more than R2 000 from his bank accounts.

The woman and the victim had been in a relationship since November last year and on 29 January, Mashaba, originally from Mokopane in Limpopo, is said to have hatched her plan to steal from her boyfriend by sending him on a wild goose chase while she allegedly performed her criminal deeds.

Mashaba is said to have faked illness and asked her boyfriend to go to the clinic and stand in the queue for her and the boyfriend duly complied. According to Alex Police Station spokesperson, Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, when the girlfriend did not pitch up at the clinic after he stood in the queue for most of the day, the boyfriend returned home.

On arrival at his house, the victim found his clothes, two bank cards, R780, his ID book and driver’s licence missing. The boyfriend later learnt that R900 had been drawn from his Capitec account and R1 000 from his Nedbank account. The boyfriend is said to have made the mistake of writing the pin numbers for both his cards on the back of each one.

The boyfriend is said to have gone frantically searching for her in Tembisa but could not find her. He also made numerous calls to her cellphone which went unanswered.

“We’re still looking for this woman as we would like to question her and we appeal to anyone with information on her whereabouts to come forward,” Maphakela said.
