Mkhombandlela Pty Ltd is a registered company of entertainers who specialise in filmmaking, traditional and choral music, traditional dance, poetry and other forms of entertainment.

Founder of the company, Sihlalo Hlophe, an accomplished actor himself who has had various roles in many TV dramas, founded Mkhombandlela, which means the one who shows the way, in 2012 after fusing talented singers from the then Community Works Programme Choir in Alexandra.

The company was registered in the same year of its founding with the help of well-known Alex philanthropist and community elder, Linda Twala, along with Bishop Nhlapo of God Never Fails Church on Vincent Tshabalala Road.

Hlophe, who is popularly known in his circles as Banda, a reference to his role name in a DStv comedy show, said Mkhombandlela has 34 members who are active in the various entertainment spheres the company is involved in. “We plan to plough back our talent into the community by developing schoolchildren in the various spheres of theatre, music and dance and this operation can only be achieved if we can secure a sponsorship to assist us undertake this mammoth task,” said Hlophe.

He added that they also intend to expand their programme of skills they teach children in schools to include art, computers and filmmaking and other skills within their scope of operations and as per a request from the schoolchildren.

Once the project blossoms, Hlophe said they will look at expanding and extending it to other townships such as Diepsloot, Soweto, Tembisa, Thokoza and Katlegong. “The sky will be the limit,” he said.

“We would like to see as many of our youth as possible transformed and taken off the streets and away from mischief. We appeal to corporates to come to our rescue, not just with funding, but with equipment and instruments to be used to teach the schoolchildren,” Hlophe said.

“We’re hopeful that, with a good partner, anything is possible under the sun.”
