Gardener who crashed employers’ Mercedes Benz sentenced to 3 months imprisonment

ALEXANDRA - A Suninghill gardener admitted guilt to crashing his employers' Mercedes Benz vehicle causing damage worthy R150000 and was sentenced to three months imprisonment by the Alexandra Magistrates Court.

A Sunninghill gardener who pleaded guilty to crashing his employers’ Mercedes Benz causing damage worth R150 000, was sentenced to three months imprisonment by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.

In mitigation, the accused, Bongani Mncube (29), who was said not to have a drivers’ licence or driving experience, claimed he crashed the car against the garage wall when trying to move it to a shaded place away from the sun. He confessed to getting the vehicle’s keys from the kitchen without permission.

The homeowner, Vanessa Ingrid requested for a lenient sentencing but said the accused, who had also been seen on a surveillance camera stealing other things from the house, was no longer welcome there.
