Man sentenced to 2 years for poisoning co-worker

ALEXANDRA - The Alexandra Magistrates Court sentenced a man to 24 months imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to poisoning a work mate in October last year.

The incident was reported in Alex News, week ending 4 March 2016, article titled Man in custody for allegedly poisoning co-worker’s tea.

Cornelius Moloto (55) was charged with poisoning the tea which Paul Tsetsewa (51) had prepared for himself and another colleague at a Paulshof printing company.

Moloto was charged after surveillance camera footage showed him spiking their tea with a poisonous substance which had been taken from the company.

Tsetsewa was saved from a serious illness after company management and shop stewards made him drink milk. This induced vomiting before he was taken to Sunninghill Hospital and transferred to Jabulani Clinic where he recovered after three days of treatment. His co-worker didn’t drink the tea.

In failed mitigation, Moloto claimed that the suspect and victim had bad blood stemming from their acquaintance at a previous employer, but the victim denied knowing of any tiff between them.

The victim was said to also be contemplating a civil suit for personal injury and suffering against the accused.
