Woman gets R7 000 bail for cellphone fraud

ALEXANDRA - Alex Magistrates Court gave bail of R7000 to a 35 year old Thembisa woman alleged to have defrauded her former employers of R184327 worthy of cell phones.

The Alex Magistrates’ Court granted bail of R7 000 to a 35-year-old Tembisa woman alleged to have defrauded her former employers of cellphones valued at R18 4327.

The court heard that last year, over an extended period of time, the accused, who worked at Vodashop in Sandton, allegedly defrauded the company by not vetting, registering and activating cellphones which were sold to customers. It was alleged that more than 20 cellphones were improperly sold and removed from the company’s online system, but the purchases did not reflect as sales and, in some instances, necessary support documents were allegedly missing.

This was discovered by the accused’s supervisor and administration manager during a routine check.

The accused will reappear in court after the investigation is complete.
