Escaping the clutches of poverty through the buying of a decent house and starting a business to sustain their life is on top of the list for Alexandra’s new multimillionaire.

The mega Lotto Jackpot winner of R20 million which was conducted on 30 January has finally claimed their windfall. This was confirmed by national lottery operator, Ithuba’s public relations and events manager, Zukiswa Nomnganga, who said the winner arrived at their offices in the first week of February to claim the prize.

The excited winner, who is said to have constantly kept checking their ticket to make sure they were not in dreamland and that the win was real, said their life will change for the better as they were living in a cramped one room.

The winner is reported to have said the windfall will change their life completely as they were living in poverty and will use part of the money to turn that life around by buying a good house and also starting a business.

Nomnganga said the winner told Ithuba they were a regular player and that on the fateful day, they had spent only R10 on the Lotto. Ithuba said the money is immediately transferred to the winner’s bank account once the ticket has been checked and validated.

“We offer all winners financial advice and counselling, and should they not have a bank account, we assist them to open one with a bank of their choice through the partnership we have with the various banks,” said Nomnganga, adding that they were forbidden to disclose the name and gender of the winner unless the person gives that consent.
