Robber serving time stands trial for another crime

ALEXANDRA - An Alex man serving a 15 years sentence for robbery committed in 2013 was recalled to court for another robbery and theft case he committed in 2010.

An Alex man serving a 15-year sentence for a robbery committed in July 2013 was recalled to stand trial for a similar crime he committed in 2010.

The accused, Michael Mnguni (32), is serving time for armed robbery and possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition, and has now been charged for another robbery and theft case by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court. Mnguni pleaded guilty to the second crime and asked the court that the sentences run concurrently. Judgement will be passed on a date to be set for later this month.

The court heard that at about midnight on 6 October 2010, Mnguni and an accomplice approached two security guards at a company in Kyalami and robbed them at gunpoint of cellphones worth R250. They forced the guards into the company’s building where they stole two plasma televisions worth R17 000 and liquor valued at R4 700 before disappearing from the scene.

Police investigating the crime lifted Mnguni’s fingerprint from a bottle of liquor found in the company’s bar.
