Dining for a cause with #ThePinkTableProject

JOBURG – The PinkDrive’s #ThePinkTableProject celebrated the launch of Cancer Wellness Awareness in Africa, an initiative to highlight the importance of nutrition during cancer care, by hosting a fundraising dinner for cancer supporters at Beefcakes Illovo.

Cancer supporters dined out at over 100 participating restaurants throughout the country to show their support for PinkDrive, a breast cancer public benefit organisation.

The theme for #ThePinkTableProject was ‘Dress in pink and left to sparkle’ for both supporters and their tables. Patrons decorated their own tables and stood the chance of winning the coveted best-dressed title.

Prizes included R1 000 gift vouchers to be spent in participating restaurants, and transport for diners was provided by Uber. Restaurants also stood a chance to win prizes in a contest for the most daring, yet healthiest, menu.

“The #PinkTableProject is an evening spent with friends and family to celebrate all the good things about life, reminding us about what we are fighting for,” said Noelene Kotschan, chief executive officer and founder of the PinkDrive.

“It is also an exciting world-first that hopefully spurs an international effort and event in the gastronomic calendar. We are passionate about the importance of early detection in breast cancer. We leverage events like these to drive awareness while also raising the much-needed funds to keep our vehicles on the road.”

Restaurants added on R100 per patron to be donated to the PinkDrive’s ongoing mission to bring important women’s health services to disadvantaged communities. The PinkDrive’s mobile testing units provide free services including education on women’s health and breast self-examination, mammograms, pap smears and clinical examinations.

The #PinkTableProject was made possible by The Wellness Trail, the participating restaurants and corporate partners, Zomato and Uber.
