Ithuba, the national lottery operator, announced that its R20 million Lotto guaranteed jackpot on 30 January has been won by a resident of the impoverished Alexandra township.
This win ranks highly even among some significant winnings recorded on EuroMillions.
Ithuba, which means ‘chance’, confirmed that the winning ticket was bought from Dunlop Restaurant in Alexandra, however, the winner had not yet come forward to claim his or her winnings.
The operator said it hoped the winnings would help improve the player’s life and that he or she could realise his or her dreams. Since launching in June last year as the new operator, Ithuba said this was its second guaranteed jackpot of R20 million and there had been one of R25 million.
