Hunt still on for shootout suspects

ALEXANDRA - The hunt is still on for two suspects who escaped after an early morning shootout with security guards next to the Freedom Supermarket on 12 January.

The hunt is still on for two suspects who were involved in an early morning shootout with security guards on 12 January.

Alex police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said no arrests have been made yet for the incident in which one of three suspects died on the scene while a seriously injured guard later died in hospital.

Police immediately launched a massive manhunt for two suspects who were involved in the shootout. According to Maphakela, the suspects are said to have approached the non-uniformed security guards on a property next to Freedom Supermarket where construction of the new shops is underway. Without any verbal communication, the suspects are said to have opened fire on the guards who returned the ‘favour’ with their own firearms and fatally wounded one of the suspects while his two accomplices fled the scene.

Maphakela said the motive for the shooting is still unknown and police have appealed to members of the community who might know about the incident or know the suspects at large, to come forward.
