Adapt receives clean audit yet again

ALEXANDRA - Alex NGO Agisanang Domestic Abuse Prevention and Training (Adapt) was on cloud nine at its recent Annual General Meeting after receiving yet another unqualified audit of its books.

The Alex non-governmental organisation, Agisanang Domestic Abuse Prevention and Training (Adapt), was over the moon at its recent Annual General Meeting after receiving yet another clean audit of its books.

Adapt chairperson, Thabiso Baloyi said the organisation had every reason to be on cloud nine as the books of the organisation have been declared clean yet again – and have been that way for the past 21 years since its inception.

“This is a proud record worth bragging about as not many non-govermental organisations can, and have, achieved this feat, and all the credit goes to our hardworking and trustworthy staff who have made Adapt the corruption-free organisation it is today.

“I am sure we shall be forgiven for blowing our own horn as this is a milestone that cannot just be allowed to slip by unnoticed and without us going on top of the mountain to announce our success,” Baloyi said at the meeting.

Despite the harsh operating environment over the past few years, coupled with the rise in global acts of war and terror, particularly in the Middle East and West Africa which tend to affect women and children more than other members of society, Baloyi said Adapt continues to soldier on in its desire to protect the most vulnerable of ‘our society, the women and children’.

Adapt CEO Irene Khumalo said the harsh economic conditions in the country and globally were hampering the noble work of the organisation but she remained resolute to soldier on.

“These harsh conditions meant a number of our projects could not be accomplished as funding continues to dry out due to the debilitating economic conditions,” Khumalo said.

“These conditions prompted us to strike partnerships with like-minded organisations to enable us to spread our wings and to work outside Alex in order to reach more people.”

She said one such organisation was People Opposing Women Abuse. Adapt now has a presence in Tembisa and Katlehong, and also works closely with the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (Sanca), Alex Clinic, Alex Police Station and many other organisations.
