Preparing the perfect School bag

JOHANNESBURG – The first day of school for many children around the country is just around the corner and parents need to make sure their little ones are fully prepared.

You’ll never get everything done the morning of the first day of school and instead of rushing around, double check that your child has everything he or she needs, packed and ready the night before.

Follow this checklist to ensure your child is prepared:

  • All books should be covered properly with a label stating your child’s name, surname and grade on the front
  • Make sure items such as school jerseys, shoes and blazers have a label sewn into them with your child’s name printed on it. These are the most commonly misplaced school items and they can become costly to replace
  • Many children end up having the same pencil cases, so avoid confusion by properly labelling it
  • Stick a label with your name, surname and contact number in your child’s bag in case of emergencies
  • Make sure your child has all the stationery he or she will need including a pen, pencil, eraser, ruler, scissors, glue and colouring in pencils
  • Try and make sure your little one’s backpack isn’t too heavy and only pack the essential books and include an examination pad
  • Make sure your child has a healthy, filling lunch
  • On the morning of the first day of school, take a picture of your child. It’s a lovely keepsake!
