WATCH: Make your children’s lunch fun

JOHANNESBURG – A boring school lunch will often go uneaten and can be a massive waste of healthy food, So City Buzz has put together some tips on how how to keep your children interested in what’s in their lunchbox.

Every child needs the basics to get through a school day.

A packed lunch should include a few vegetables and fruit, grain foods such as bread, pasta, breakfast cereals, rice or corn, as well as some reduced-fat dairy products such as milk, cheese or yoghurt and, of course, high protein items can also be included such as fish, chicken and eggs, as well as legumes such as peas, beans, lentils, chickpeas and nuts.

However, lunch doesn’t have to be boring, especially if you take the time to make and pack it the night before.

Sandwiches can be creative thanks to cookie cutters. Use them to transform regular sandwiches into fun, tasty treats. Familiar shapes such as popular cartoon characters can be easy to make and will get the little ones excited to eat. It doesn’t have to be restricted to bread either, you can also use cookie cutters to create fun shapes using fruit and veggies.
