Pikitup on strike – again

JOBURG - Pikitup workers have reportedly downed tools once again after receiving their pay.

The workers embarked on another unprotected strike, despite having signed a wage agreement on 3 December.

Pikitup has stated that it expects service delivery disruptions due to the strike.

Councillor Amanda Forsythe however tweeted that the strike has been averted and collections will continue as usual.

According to eNCA Pikitup said in a statement: “This illegal work stoppage will affect refuse collection in all the regions of the City of Johannesburg. We therefore appeal to residents and business owners to bear with us and to continue to leave their bins and excess waste inside their yards until further notice.

“These disruptions are of great concern to us, our shareholder (the City of Johannesburg) but most importantly our residents and the business owners serviced by Pikitup on a daily basis.”
