An Alex man was denied bail by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court after he was arrested for allegedly stabbing his estranged girlfriend to death.

David Nkuna was denied bail on 7 December in connection with the murder, which occurred on 26 November. Nkuna allegedly murdered 42-year-old Sibongile Mathosi of 16th Avenue. He will reappear in court for another hearing on 14 December.

The court heard that at about 8pm on the day, the accused, who was estranged from the deceased for a while after a 10-year relationship, allegedly stabbed her to death at his residence. It was alleged that he met her near her home and forcibly dragged her to his house while threatening her.

At the driveway to his home, he allegedly beat and fatally stabbed her several times before he fled the scene. Neighbours claim to have heard screams but didn’t respond until her close friend and neighbour, who had arrived from Tembisa, contacted the deceased’s relatives.

They rushed to the scene and were told by others on the scene that the accused had disappeared. A stranger was said to have called the police and the Emergency Management Services who declared her dead on the scene before taking her body to the government mortuary.

The accused is said to have presented himself to the police a day after the incident and was arrested.
