Fingerprints earn man sentence for old crime

ALEXANDRA - The Alexandra Magistrates' Court requisitioned a man serving a sentence for house breaking to the dock and convicted him of a similar offence committed years earlier.

A man serving a sentence for housebreaking was in the dock again at Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for a similar offence committed years earlier.

The court heard that Moses Mjadu was convicted in 2014 for housebreaking and theft and was serving 12 years for the offence when his fingerprints were found at another housebreaking incident in 2003.

For this offence, he was found guilty and sentenced to seven years for breaking into someone’s property and stealing household items to the value of R10 000. None of the stolen items from both incidents was recovered. The two sentences will run concurrently.
