Early Christmas for Ratang Bana children

ALEXANDRA - Orphaned children at the Ingrid Maredi's Ratang Bana centre had an early Christmas when Good Samaritans brought them bags-full of goodies to start the festive season.

Orphaned children at the Ingrid Maredi’s Ratang Bana Centre had an early Christmas when Good Samaritans brought them goodies bags to kick off the festive season.

The Good Samaritans were Mykyla Owen and Mirinda Harrison of Genop Healthcare; Mandy Owen of Vermont Leathercraft Manufacturers; and Sasha Vanhee, from a company called Please.

Explaining how they partnered with Ratang Bana, Mykyla, the daughter of Mandy, said they were looking for a charity in Alex to work with and one of their employees, Mary Sehoole, connected them with Ratang Bana.

“We first came here on Mandela Day and we fell in love with the organisation purely for the work it does in the community and the flourishing and sustainable garden being run by the centre,” Mykyla said.

“We then decided we were going to work with Maredi’s institution as it embodied the principles of what we also believed in as individuals and as a company.”

For the Christmas visit, Mykyla said the 150 boxes contained necessities such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, toys, clothes, sweets, books and stationery for the older children.

“We will not only try and support Maredi’s centre all year round, but we will also endeavour to get other people involved in the project so we can raise more money which will spell more items for the children,” Mykyla added.
