Parkview Charity Christmas Market spreads the joy

PARKVIEW - Nicarela Charity raised fund for various charities at their annual Christmas market.

Entertainment, food, family and crafts were the order of the three-day-long ninth annual Parkview Charity Christmas Market at George Hay Park organised by Nicarela Charity.

Community members were able to do some Christmas shopping, taste some of the delicious food on sale, socialise with friends and family, and share the spirit of festivity.

Nicarela Charity is a non-profit organisation, aimed at bettering the lives of those who are less fortunate. Nicarela’s purpose is to raise funds to support a number of outreach projects. They do so by organising events and markets with their volunteers. All proceeds from these events are given to the projects

According to Karola McArthur, board member of the organisation, the market raised R700 000 last year for Nicarela, which was then able to assist 16 of its beneficiaries. This year the market attracted about 10 000 people and the raffle alone raised more than R100 000 for the charity.

“We have raised R2 million in the past six years, over and above what we received from the Parkview Christmas Market,” said McArthur.

Heather Walter was the lucky community member who won the Rovos Rail raffle prize.

“The market was great, the people and atmosphere created community togetherness, which was good to see and experience as a stall,” said Brian Dien of Cheese Gourmet Linden.

The charity’s Kirstin Wrench said she was very happy with the market and how it was accepted by the community. “I want to describe the days as hot dogs, cold beer, good friends and community, which equals a great time.”
