Mercantile Bank assists entrepreneurs to grow their business

JOBURG - THE Mercantile Bank recently launched the Grow your Business initiative as part of its jubilee milestone and saw established entrepreneurs from across the country being offered loans of up to R250 million to assist them in taking their businesses to the next level.

Karl Kumbier, chief executive officer of Mercantile Bank, explained the bank’s decision to help invest in entrepreneurship. “South Africa is home to countless individuals who have worthy business concepts, yet often their ideas go unheard as these entrepreneurs don’t have the means to develop them further,” he said.

“The role entrepreneurs play in the economy and how they contribute towards job creation is key to the development of our country, so we have to ensure that small businesses get the opportunity to flourish and this is where Mercantile Bank comes in,” said Kumbier.

He said as a bank focused on entrepreneurship, it understood business owners and what they wanted from their banking experience.

The jubilee celebration also saw the creation of a unique sculpture of a sailboat, which Kumbier explained signified the bank’s Portuguese roots and its journey with its clients.

He concluded by celebrating the milestone achieved by the bank, adding that he hoped the brand’s R250-million loan would assist entrepreneurs to elevate their existing businesses to new heights.”

The 50-year celebration took place at Montecasino on 21 November and included a display of a sculpture crafted by Simon Max Bannister.
