Man granted bail for alleged jewellery fraud

ALEXANDRA - The Alexandra Magistrate Court postponed a case of fraud involving a Nigerian national to 14 December 2015 to enable him to consult his lawyers.

The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court postponed a case of alleged fraud involving a 39-year-old Nigerian national to enable him to consult his lawyers.

The accused was granted bail. The court heard that he was arrested by police in October this year at a Sandton jewellery shop after he allegedly attempted to defraud the shop of a watch valued at R108 000.

It was said the accused had requested a R10 000 discount on the watch and it was granted. He then attempted to pay for the watch using a credit card issued by a London-based bank.

The transaction was declined. The shop attendant alerted management who contacted the police. It was alleged the card was fake.

The court will hear the case on 14 December.
