Cluster police promoted

ALEXANDRA - FORTY-SEVEN police officers in the Alexandra Cluster were promoted from the rank of sergeant, to warrant officer.

The cluster comprises Alexandra, Bramley, Sandringham, Sandton and Midrand police stations.

The promotions bestowed by Colonels George Prins, Ruth Griessel and Major Manzini Lebambo, were in recognition of the recipients’ exemplary conduct, dedication to duty in serving the public and in protecting the country.

Colonel Prins said the promotions were not automatic but earned. “All aspire for them but few will get them at a time depending on performance, commitment to lead by example and the availability of the positions. Their good conduct will enable them to assume the higher positions with more important responsibilities, coupled with improved financial rewards,” Prins said. He urged others to follow their example.

One of the promoted officers, Mashalane Maphuthi, who joined the service in 2004 and is based at the Alexandra Police Station, said he had waited for the opportunity for a long time. He thanked his superiors for the commendation, which he said signaled potential in him which he will dispense in helping to secure life and property. “The increased workload and responsibility that accompanies the promotion shouldn’t be a challenge as I commit to work even harder,” he said.

The promotions were back-dated to June 2015.
