A Tsutsumani man and his accomplice, suspected to be from Soweto, were recently remanded in custody by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for armed robbery and will reappear in court at a later date after investigations are complete.

The court heard that on the morning of 15 June, the three, suspected to be members of a gang, robbed a female motorist while she was stopped at a traffic light. Witnesses said the men were an Audi. The suspects are said to have stopped their vehicle next to the victim’s Range Rover before getting out of their car to confront the victim.

Whilst the woman was in the car, the perpetrators shot her in the leg, then stole her jewellery. The jewellery is said to be worth a few thousand rand, however, the exact value is unknown. The robbers then sped off. An ambulance was called and the woman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

After extensive investigations, Alex police managed to track down two of the suspects in Alexandra and arrested them. Their accomplice is still at large.
