Two found guilty in Emmanuel Sithole murder case

JOBURG - Two men have been found guilty of murdering Mozambican national Emmanual Sithole in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court today.

UPDATE: 6.26pm 6 November – Two men have been found guilty in the trail of the murder of Emmanuel Sithole.

Sithole was stabbed to death in Alex, during xenophobic attacks in April.

The SABC reported that Mthinta Bhengu and Sifundi Mzimzela were found guilty in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday. The third accused was reportedly only found guilty of theft.

Initial report -The four men face charges of murder and assault in a trial which is being held in-camera because one of the accused is a minor.

The state called its second witness, Fabian Gomez, a fellow vendor, who testified that the minor involved in the case had poured beer over Sithole’s head before hitting him with the bottle. He testified that the accused had taken a box of cigarettes from Sithole’s table without paying for them. When he approached them for the return of the cigarettes, the violence began.

Gomez testified that after Sithole was stabbed, he continued to run towards him.
